All About me
Hello reader, welcome to my blog, my name is Vanesa Flynn. The picture of myself above is from my Facebook album, here is the link to the album Facebook Album. Most people call me Vanilla (hence my twitter @VanillaFlynn), Flynn or Flynnerd. I am currently in my second year of studies with a major in nutrition and food science and a minor in human ecology. My plan is to switch into the nutrition major and go through the dietetic internship to start my own private practice. If you would like more information on the role of dietitians in society you can click on the following link www.dietitians.ca. If I do not gain acceptance into the dietetic internship my secondary passion is business.
Just a little bit of background about me, I am an only child, raised only by my mother. I have lived in Edmonton my entire life but I do not plan on staying here after I finish my degree. I will move to either British Columbia, United States, or somewhere in Europe for the warmer weather and a change of scenery. For those who know me, know me as a health nut and exercise guru. I follow strict diet 7 days a week and a injury protection muscle building exercise program 5 days a week. I am thinking about doing a fitness competition called Muscle Beach, I still have a lot more training to do, but I know I can get there. I feel it is important to "practice what you preach," since I am aspiring dietitian I must portray a healthy image to the clients I will be working with. Take this comparison for example, would you rather have a personal trainer who is fit and works out, or would you rather an obese trainer who doesn't work out? The communication of body image is extremely important in the nutrition industry and there is a certain level of trust a client can immediately gain just from a first impression. I take the health of individuals very seriously because I know the consequences that follow with an unhealthy diet/lifestyle. None the less I enjoy my healthy life style and live it to the fullest!
Communication is so easily accesable in our world today because we revolve around technology and many social media outlets. In the role of a dietitian it is crucial to the patients growth and recovery that communication is established from the very beginning. With a new client you are responsible to assess their needs and understand their desired outcome. This comes with communicating to them the positive and negative results of your assessment. From here you must coach them through there new plan, by offering advice and support. Having the ability and knowledge to answer a clients questions or concerns at any time through some avenue of communication will benefit the client substantially. My class mate Brenna is also an aspiring dietitian, check out her page Brenna for a different view on how communication is important in the nutrition industry.
I know when I am finished with this course, Ales 204, I will have an understanding of how to professionally promote my private practice business through Facebook and Twitter. I believe it will do wonders for my future business because no one can deny that our world is advancing rapidly towards more technological communication and promotion.
